Valldemossa

Valldemossa is about 15-20 minutes drive away from Palma de Mallorca, surrounded by terraced terrain and hilltops.

The highest town in Mallorca is best-known as the place where the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and French writer George Sand, spent the winter of 1838. Valldemossa was named after a Moorish landowner, Muza.

Frédéric Chopin and French writer George Sand, stayed in a rented room in the monastery. Now this is Mallorca’s most visited town.

In fact, Chopin and Sand didn’t have the best of stays and Sand’s book about their experiences didn’t pull any punches. Nevertheless, the book ‘A Winter in Majorca’ is a bestseller and is on sale in almost every shop in Valldemossa, in a variety of languages.

Fun fact about Valldemossa :

  • Valldemossa is also home to Costa Nord – a contemporary cultural centre, created by Hollywood actor Michael Douglas.

  • Birthplace of the island’s only saint: Santa Catalina Thomas.


Things to do in Valldemossa:

  • Puig des Teix - perfect for hiking

  • Explore the cobbled streets of Valldemossa which are full of shops, boutiques and all kinds of cafés, bars and restaurants

  • Visit the Sunday market

  • Port of Valldemossa - The port is away from the tourist area but is only five miles from Valldemossa

  • Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma

The palace was built by king Jaume II in the beginning of the 14th century, for his son Nuño Sanç who suffered great from asthma. Mallorca’s mountains has always been known to be beneficial for peoples health.

Perfect place to explore the history of Valldemossa, including the Archduke Lluis Salvador’s adventures. They rented CELL No. 4 of the La Cartuja de Valldemossa monastery where Chopin received his Pleyel piano from Paris.

Secluded beach visits are a short distance from town.

This town is a must see in Mallorca, the Island is quite possibly the ultimate holiday destination. especially Valldemossa, the village steeped in old-world charm, Valldemossa sits in an idyllic valley in the midst of the Tramuntana mountains
